Day and Night in Hyberbolic Space (2007) mathematically represents the model of hyperbolic plane or the surface with constant negative curvature. It was crocheted starting from a point and changing colors – one skein navy blue, the other turquoise. It was an experiment to see what will happen – I was expecting at some point colors to become mixed chaotically but they did not. One side of this piece is darker than the other, therefore the title “Day and Night in Hyperbolic Space“.
13-symmetry (2005) is crocheted following the same principle – it represents the model of the hyperbolic plane that is crocheted starting from a point. Afterwards it is sculpted in a different shape that mathematically represents geometric manifold.
