Katya Bonnenfant fused mid-twentieth-century calculators and clocks with iPods in her series “Vintage Packaging for Animation” (2009). The artist wanted to give recycled machines a “second life.” Her refurbished electronics display whimsical animations—the clock’s flashing numerals gradually morph into dynamic little beings. Bonnenfant drew upon the charm of yesterday’s technology to imagine another world where playful creatures engage in nonsensical behavior.
