Urban Constructed Wetland Design: Fletcher Studio
xAirport consists of an outdoor artificial marsh and zipline, plus an indoor “skunkworks” for testing personal aerodynamics. The project revolves around the notion of “wetlanding”—creating a spectacular freshwater urban wetland, which also functions as a landing strip for a personal, amphibious plane, thereby re-presenting the wetland as an exemplar of the “high tech” twenty-first century. xAirport celebrates and spectacularizes the complex natural processes involved in the “new technology” of constructed wetlands to showcase the possibilities of urban “divercity.”
